ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF THE PLO PEACE   TO TOP

Arabs will be investing millions in the Palestinian market place.

Samir Huliah of the Tunis / Palestinian economic research department recommends $12 billion during the next seven (7) years ?? $9 billion  from rich Palestinians.

Diaspora Jews contribute $1.5 billion per year and there are 6 times more Jews than Palestinians.

World Bank recommends $4.3 billion from the public sector in the next ten (10) years.

George Abend of the Geneva/Palestinian Welfare Association recommends $25 billion in the next ten (10) years., $15 billion  in infrastructure and $10 billion in the private sector.

Gaza has 800,000 people. 1/2 in refugee camps. 60% under 19 and 67% under 29.

WB has 800,000 people.

Gaza per capita income in 92 was $1,300.

To build 120,000 apartments, 90 miles of roads, hospitals and industry cost $500 million per year for 5 years.

Too much money too fast is like a rain storm in a desert, little absorption and a lot of run-off.

GNP of Gaza and West Bank is $2 ƒbillion and of Israel $52 billion. Monthly wage, $540 for Gaza and WB, $1,800 for Israel. Border control for customs and taxes to protect the economy. Israel to protect its fruit and vegetable market from cheaper Palestinians.

40% of Palestinian income was generated by 12.5% of population.

GS & WB industry contributes only 7% to GDP. XXX

Joint ventures with Israel is unlikely due to levels being so different.

Jordan no help, it is in the red $7 billion and grow the same crops.

480,000 Palestinian refugees have to be rehabbed after 40 yrs.

Political instabilities within the Palest. Returning refugees fro Syria & Lebanon who hate Israelis.

Choices: Complete separation vs. economic dependence on Israel.

History already annexed the Palestinian economy to Israel.

History already created Jordan as Palestine, why is this being ignored???

CUBA'S REFORMATION  TO TOP

Anachronistic (out of chronology) Cuba's (Castro) goal of a "socialistic path to development". He uses U.S. economic embargo as the scapegoat which is holding it back.

Cuba buys water buffalos from Viet Nam to replace gasoline powered plows and bicycles from China to replace cars and busses. It suffers from malnutrition and little medication, no aspirins or antibiotic.

Soviet Union used to subsidize Cuba in exchange for mercenaries in Angola and Ethiopia.

ASPECTS OF LIFTING THE BAN

CON's

Cuba has no money to buy anything anyway.

We have no more need for Cuban cigars.

Sugar crops are weak and tarrifs protect American sugar industry.

Tourism would encourage Cuban's to emmigrate due to exposure to prosperity and freedom.

Will seem to Cuban/Americans as concessions to a tyrant.

A big bang ousting may lead to panic emmigration to U.S and lead to a feeble Cuba.

PRO's

Solution: Lift the ban, do not develop diplomatic or cultural ties.

Lead to fre elections.

Will glide Cuba into a post-Castro-Communist government.
